MAME 32 allows you to play long lost classic
arcade games, and some newer ones.
In 1996, Nicola Salmoria began working on his single
hardware emulators. He named his accomplishment Multiple Arcade Machine
Emulator, or MAME.
The first official release was MAME 0.1, in 1997.
The current version recognizes over six thousand ROM sets. New MAME releases
occur frequently about every four to six months.
| Even though MAME allows individuals to play those
old classic video arcade games and some newer ones, the principal function
of the MAME project is to record the hardware and software of the original
arcade games. Already there are many dead arcade boards that have been
brought back to life thanks to MAME. The ability to play these games is
just a nice by-product.
The colossal MAME achievement would not be likely
without the aptitude of the programmers coming together to form the MAME
team. Currently, there are over 100 official members on the team, but there
is a large following of outside contributors as well. |
